AXT RWD Diesel is the entry Thar, the cheapest way into Mahindra's iconic 3-door off-roader. It runs the 1.5 litre diesel with 116 bhp and 300 Nm through a rear wheel drive layout. This is the lifestyle Thar, built for the look, the open top feel and easy road use rather than serious trails.

Being the base trim, it keeps things raw. There is no touchscreen and safety is dual front airbags, so you are buying the Thar character and the four seat cabin more than cabin kit. The strong low end torque still makes it fun to drive and capable on rough roads, even without the 4WD hardware.

Choose the AXT only if the budget is tight and you want the Thar image at the lowest price. Most buyers should step up to the LXT for the big touchscreen, alloys and cruise control. Anyone who plans real off-roading should look at a 4WD trim, since this rear wheel drive version cannot match a proper 4x4 on tough terrain.
