Hyundai unveiled the all-new Bayon at the Paris Motor Show on 12 October 2026 and confirmed an India-spec version built around a generative AI voice assistant and over-the-air updates. The SUV launches in India on 26 October, joining Hyundai's range of cars in India alongside the Venue and Creta.

Bookings are open at Hyundai dealerships and on hyundai.co.in for ₹11,000, with deliveries due in the festive season. Prices and variants have not been announced. Hyundai's India release notes that it has applied for type approval, the government certification a model needs before it can be sold.

Tarun Garg, Managing Director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India, said the Bayon "places technology and convenience at the heart of the customer experience."

Engine and Gearbox

The India-spec Bayon uses a four-cylinder 1.5-litre MPi (multi-point injection) petrol engine with 115 PS and 144 Nm. Buyers choose between a 6-speed manual and the IVT, a CVT-type automatic with no fixed gear steps. Hyundai has not listed a turbo petrol, diesel or CNG version.

Those figures match the Creta's 1.5 petrol specifications, which list 115 PS and 143.8 Nm with the same two gearboxes.

How the India Model Differs From the Paris Car

The Bayon shown in Paris is the European model. It uses 1.0-litre turbo petrol engines with 90 PS or 115 PS, a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, and gets a hybrid in 2027. Hyundai will build it at its Izmit plant in Türkiye from later this year. The European car is 4,245 mm long with a 2,600 mm wheelbase.

The India-spec car replaces the turbo engines with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol. Hyundai has not confirmed its dimensions or where it will be built.

The Technology on Board

Hyundai's European release for the Bayon lists the twin curved screens but not the AI assistant, NVIDIA navigation, OTA updates or Bluelink.

Generative AI Voice Assistant

The Bayon is the first Hyundai in India with a generative AI voice assistant. Perplexity supplies its intelligence and SoundHound AI its voice technology. It takes requests in normal conversation instead of relying only on fixed commands. Hyundai's examples include planning a road trip, checking the weather, finding hotels and restaurants, and pulling up sports scores.

The assistant works in English only, and Hyundai says its answers are for information only.

Offline Voice Commands in Six Languages

More than 500 built-in voice commands work without an internet connection, in English, Hindi, Hinglish, Tamil, Bengali and Telugu. They cover commonly used vehicle functions.

The infotainment and instrument cluster screens can display 10 regional and 2 international languages. Hyundai has not named them.

Twin 12.3-Inch Curved Screens With NVIDIA-Accelerated Navigation

Two curved 12.3-inch screens, one for the instruments and one for infotainment, sit side by side for a combined 62.5 cm. Hyundai calls the system the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC). NVIDIA technology accelerates its 12.3-inch navigation system.

The ccNC software adds online navigation, a personalised quick control panel, split-screen mode, smartphone-style shortcuts and separate driver profiles.

Over-the-Air Updates on Up to 19 Controllers

Up to 19 electronic controllers in the Bayon can receive over-the-air (OTA) software updates, so Hyundai can add features and fixes without a dealership visit. The "up to" wording suggests the count varies by variant. Updates depend on network availability and come at Hyundai's discretion.

Bluelink Connected Features

Hyundai's Bluelink system adds more than 70 connected features, including remote start and stop, remote vehicle controls, smartphone and smartwatch connectivity, and safety and security functions. Hyundai has not announced how long the subscription lasts or what it costs.

How the Bayon Lines Up Against Rivals

Hyundai has not said where the Bayon will sit in its range, and price will decide that. Its engine already matches the Creta, which costs ₹10.91 lakh to ₹20.30 lakh ex-showroom. The smaller Venue, at ₹8.00 lakh to ₹15.65 lakh, has no 1.5 petrol.

Engine size also sets the tax rate. India's 18% GST rate for small petrol cars covers only models up to 4 metres long with engines up to 1,200 cc. The Bayon's 1.5-litre engine puts it in the 40% band with the Creta and Seltos, while petrol Venues pay 18%.

The closest rival on engine type is Kia's Seltos, with a 1.5 petrol (113 bhp, 144 Nm) and prices from ₹10.99 lakh to ₹21.57 lakh. The Honda Elevate makes 121 PS and costs ₹11.80 lakh to ₹18.40 lakh. Maruti Suzuki's Brezza starts lower, at ₹7.50 lakh to ₹13.71 lakh, with a 102 bhp 1.5 petrol. All prices are ex-showroom from the DynoBHP catalog as of September 2026.

With an engine already sold in other cars, the Bayon's main point of difference is its software.

Buyers who pay the ₹11,000 booking amount now do so before Hyundai has published a price, a variant list, a fuel efficiency figure or a safety specification, and before type approval is granted.
