CNG Makes Up a Record 19.1% of Hyundai's Sales in India
Hyundai's CNG share has risen from 18% to 19.1%. Which models offer CNG, what it costs over petrol on each, and where Hyundai has no CNG option.

CNG models accounted for a record 19.1% of Hyundai Motor India's domestic sales between July and September 2026, or nearly one in five cars it sold in the country.
The company reported the share with its quarterly results on 28 October, calling it its highest CNG contribution in any quarter. Rural markets also hit a record, at 26.6% of domestic sales.
How the Share Has Moved
| Quarter | Months | CNG share | Rural share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q4 FY26 | January to March 2026 | 18% | 25% |
| Q1 FY27 | April to June 2026 | 18% | 26% |
| Q2 FY27 | July to September 2026 | 19.1% | 26.6% |
In May, Hyundai credited its then-record 18% to rising adoption and its entry into commercial mobility. It sells two CNG models for taxi operators, the Prime HB hatchback at ₹5,99,900 and the Prime SD sedan at ₹7,00,600, ex-showroom Delhi. Hyundai claims 27.32 km/kg for the Prime HB and 28.40 km/kg for the Prime SD.
The July results release gave figures by model for April to June. CNG versions made up 95% of Aura sales and 32% of Exter sales that quarter, the highest share for either model. The October release gives no model figures.
Three CNG Models for Private Buyers
For private buyers, Hyundai offers factory-fitted CNG on the Exter, Grand i10 Nios and Aura.
| Model | CNG trims | Ex-showroom price | CNG tank, water equivalent |
|---|---|---|---|
| Exter | HX 2, HX 3, HX 4, HX 6, HX 6 Knight, HX 8 | ₹6,99,900 to ₹9,46,600 | 60 litres |
| Grand i10 Nios | Magna, Sportz | ₹7,32,700 to ₹7,82,700 | 60 litres |
| Aura | S, Corporate, SX | ₹7,89,200 to ₹8,67,200 | 65 litres |
The cheapest is the Exter HX 2 CNG at ₹6,99,900, which costs ₹32,800 less than the cheapest Grand i10 Nios CNG.
All three share a 1.2-litre petrol engine that makes 69 PS and 95.2 Nm on CNG, against 83 PS and 113.8 Nm on petrol. Every CNG version uses a five-speed manual gearbox.
Choosing CNG adds ₹89,800 to ₹1,19,300 over the same trim with petrol. The smallest gap is on the Grand i10 Nios Sportz CNG, and the largest on the Exter HX 2.
The Exter and Grand i10 Nios use Hyundai's twin-cylinder Hy-CNG Duo setup. The Exter CNG has 225 litres of boot space against 391 litres for the petrol model, both on the V215 standard. Its spare wheel is mounted under the body.
Where Hyundai Has No CNG
Hyundai sells the i20, Venue, Bayon, Creta, Verna, Alcazar and Tucson without a CNG option, according to its price list. It also has no CNG automatic, a format Tata offers on four of its models.
Every Hyundai CNG version, taxis included, is priced below ₹10 lakh ex-showroom. The most expensive is the Exter HX 8 at ₹9,46,600.
