Maruti Suzuki sold 2,36,807 utility vehicles in India between July and September 2026, 52.3% more than a year earlier, according to its monthly sales releases.

That lifted utility vehicles to 42.7% of Maruti's domestic passenger vehicle sales, from 38.7% in the same quarter of 2025. Passenger cars still made up the larger share, at 50.7%.

The company's domestic market share for the quarter stood at 40.8%, a gain of 2.2 percentage points on a year ago. That was below the 41.2% it reported for April to June.

Maruti's utility vehicle group covers nine models: the Victoris, Grand Vitara, Brezza, Fronx, Jimny and e Vitara, plus the three-row Ertiga, XL6 and Invicto. Its passenger cars are the WagonR, Swift, Dzire, Baleno, Celerio, Ignis, Ciaz, Alto and S-Presso.

Utility vehicle sales barely moved from month to month, staying between 78,851 and 79,045 units. Passenger car sales swung from 1,03,456 in July to 85,965 in August, then rose to 91,887 in September.

Two Sets of Growth Figures

Maruti's results release gives its own growth rates for the quarter. It said small car sales rose 35.9% and SUV sales 68.2%.

Those figures do not match the monthly tables, which show passenger cars up 31.9% and utility vehicles up 52.3%. The results release does not list the models it counts as small cars or SUVs.

The monthly tables also count people carriers such as the Ertiga as utility vehicles, so the two sets of figures measure different groups.

Alto and S-Presso Sales Jump in July

Maruti split out its entry models, the Alto and S-Presso, in July and August. Their sales rose 85.2% to 12,634 units in July and 28.4% to 8,799 units in August.

The September release merged them with the larger hatchbacks and sedans, so a full quarterly figure is not available.

The comparison period matters here. Maruti said in April that a GST reduction drove steep domestic growth in the second half of its last financial year, from October 2025 to March 2026.

That means July to September 2026 is being compared with months before that surge. From October, Maruti's year-on-year growth will be measured against the stronger post-reduction months.

Vans and Light Trucks

Sales of the Eeco, Maruti's only van, rose 11.3% to 36,897 units. The Super Carry light commercial vehicle added 10,441 units, up 23.5%.

Including the Super Carry, Maruti sold 5,65,453 vehicles in India in the quarter. Sales to other manufacturers took its domestic total to 5,88,535.
