New Plants Behind the Numbers

Two new plants have lifted Maruti's yearly capacity by 5 lakh units to 29 lakh this financial year. Kharkhoda's second plant in Haryana started in May, and Hansalpur's Plant D in Gujarat in July.

Spread evenly, 29 lakh a year works out to about 2,41,700 vehicles a month. October's output was above that.

The new capacity followed a period when, by Maruti's own account, production limits held back sales. At the end of September it still had about 2 lakh bookings waiting.

Kharkhoda builds the Brezza compact SUV and the Victoris, while the new Hansalpur plant is starting with the e Vitara.
