The Dzire CNG automatic is India's most fuel-efficient sedan at 36.47 km/kg, Maruti Suzuki said again on 31 October as the model passed 35 lakh units of production.

The claim rests on a certification by data firm JATO Dynamics dated 18 September 2026, the day Maruti launched the automatic CNG Dzire. The 36.47 km/kg figure is the test-agency rating under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules.

Two Versions, Two Prices

The CNG automatic comes on two Dzire trims, the VXi and ZXi. Maruti's AGS automatic is a five-speed automated manual gearbox, and it can also be shifted by hand.

VXi CNG AGSAutomatic₹8.53 lakh36.47 km/kg
ZXi CNGManual₹9.19 lakh35.63 km/kg
ZXi CNG AGSAutomatic₹9.54 lakh36.47 km/kg

The automatic adds about ₹35,000 over the manual on both trims. Maruti's launch release put the starting price at ₹8,53,100 ex-showroom.

The cheaper of the two is the VXi CNG AGS. The ZXi CNG AGS is the most expensive CNG Dzire.

The Engine

Every CNG Dzire runs the 1.2-litre Z12E three-cylinder engine, which makes 69 bhp and 101.8 Nm on CNG. The tank holds 55 litres in water-filling terms.

Maruti's CNG system now also has idle start-stop. It switches the engine off when the car stands still in traffic and restarts it when the driver moves off.

Two Siblings Got It Too

The Dzire was one of three models to get a CNG automatic in September. The Swift and Baleno use the same engine and gearbox.

Baleno₹8,32,40034.47 km/kg

The Swift is the cheapest way into a Maruti CNG automatic, while the sedan is rated as the most efficient of the three.

Maruti said in September that its CNG sales rose 58% in the first quarter of the year, and hit a monthly record of 83,000 units in July. Among other brands, Tata sells CNG automatic versions of four models.
