Maruti Suzuki's Utility Vehicles Almost Draw Level With Its Small Cars in October
Utility vehicles reached 46% of Maruti's domestic sales in October, the highest share this financial year. Which models count, and how growth has changed.

Maruti Suzuki's utility vehicles came within 3,090 units of its passenger cars in October 2026, the narrowest gap of any month in the current financial year.
Maruti sold 97,787 utility vehicles in India in October against 1,00,877 passenger cars, its sales release shows. Utility vehicles made up 46% of its domestic passenger vehicle sales, the highest share since April.

| Month of 2026 | Passenger cars | Utility vehicles | Gap | Utility vehicle share |

| October | 1,00,877 | 97,787 | 3,090 | 46.0% |
The share is DynoBHP's calculation from the release figures. It counts the Eeco van in the passenger vehicle total.
October's jump came from utility vehicles breaking out of a narrow band. Their sales had stayed within about 150 units of 79,000 in each month from July to September, before rising by 18,876 in October to the year's highest monthly figure.
What Counts as a Utility Vehicle
Maruti's utility vehicle group has nine models. Six are SUVs: the Brezza, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Jimny, e Vitara and Victoris. The other three, the Ertiga, XL6 and Invicto, are people carriers.
Its passenger car group covers the Alto, S-Presso, Celerio, WagonR, Swift, Baleno, Ignis, Dzire and Ciaz.
Maruti does not split either group by model, so the release cannot show which SUVs drove October's rise.
Growth Has Slowed for Both
Against October 2025, utility vehicles grew 26.1% and passenger cars 18.4%. Both rates were lower than in July to September, when utility vehicle sales rose 52.3% and passenger cars 31.9%.
A year ago, utility vehicles already made up 44% of Maruti's October passenger vehicle sales. The share has risen two points since then.
Production Kept Pace
The shift came in a month when Maruti posted record total sales of 2,76,120. The company has also added SUV capacity this year: the Brezza and Victoris are built at Kharkhoda in Haryana, where a second plant began production in May.
Its production release shows output of utility vehicles rose 52% to 1,19,253 in October. That figure includes models Maruti builds for other carmakers.
