Maruti Suzuki has built more than 35 lakh units of the Dzire, about 18 years and 9 months after the compact sedan went on sale in 2008, the company said on 31 October.

The Dzire is now made at Maruti's Manesar plant in Haryana. The Alto, Swift and WagonR are the only other Maruti models to have passed the same production mark.

How Production Built Up

Maruti gave the month in which the Dzire reached each earlier milestone.

The first 10 lakh units took 7 years and 3 months to build, Maruti said. The most recent 10 lakh took 4 years and 4 months.

The last 5 lakh came in under two years, between December 2024 and October 2026.

Four Generations

The current Dzire is the fourth generation and went on sale in November 2024. It was the first sedan to receive a five-star Bharat NCAP crash test rating.

Maruti calls the Dzire India's best-selling passenger vehicle, citing figures from the industry body SIAM for the 2025-26 financial year. It was also among Maruti's five most exported models in that year.

Managing director Hisashi Takeuchi said it is rare for a car to stay relevant for nearly two decades. Maruti says the Dzire has helped it lead the sedan segment for 19 years in a row.

The Range Today

The Dzire line-up runs from the LXi petrol manual to the ZXi Plus automatic, with factory CNG on the VXi and ZXi trims.

Its newest addition is a CNG automatic, launched in September on the VXi and ZXi. Maruti rates it as the most fuel-efficient sedan sold in the country, at a certified 36.47 km/kg.

Every Dzire is powered by Maruti's three-cylinder Z12E petrol engine of 1.2 litres, with a five-speed manual or a five-speed AGS automatic. Prices start at ₹6.31 lakh ex-showroom, and the full list is on the Dzire price page.
