Hyundai Motor India will launch a dedicated mass-market electric vehicle between January and March 2027, managing director and chief executive Tarun Garg said on 28 October.

Garg gave the timing in the company's results release for the July to September quarter, saying Hyundai was "fully geared up" to bring it out in Q4 FY27. Hyundai Motor India's financial year runs from April to March, which places that quarter in January to March 2027.

The release gives no name, price, battery size or driving range for the model. It also does not say which plant will build it.

What Hyundai Has Said So Far

The Korean parent, Hyundai Motor Company, set out its plans for India at its 2026 CEO Investor Day in Seoul on 26 August. Among the products it said were arriving soon was "an all-new A-segment SUV EV for India". A-segment is the smallest of the industry's car size classes.

The same release said Hyundai's SUV line-up in India would grow, beginning with a new electric SUV due in the fourth quarter. It did not say which year. The SUV would be localised and designed for India, it said, with Level 2 driver assistance and Hyundai's next-generation infotainment.

Hyundai currently sells two electric cars in India. The Creta Electric starts at ₹18,02,800 ex-showroom Delhi, and the Ioniq 5 costs ₹55,70,600, according to Hyundai's price list.

The Creta Electric offers a 42 kWh or 51.4 kWh battery and an ARAI-certified range of up to 510 km. Since July, Hyundai has also sold it under a battery-as-a-service plan, from ₹10.99 lakh ex-showroom plus battery rental from ₹3.9 per km.
