India will be the first market for the ALPHA and, in future, its global production base. It is also the first Honda in India to carry the new H mark.

Honda Cars India said on 3 November that its upcoming electric SUV will be called the Honda ALPHA, and that it will make its global debut on 2 December 2026.

The ALPHA will be the first electric SUV that Honda builds in India. India will also be the first country where it goes on sale, the company said.

What Honda Has Confirmed

Alpha is the opening letter of the Greek alphabet, and Honda said it picked the name to stand for a new beginning.

Honda first displayed the SUV in concept form at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show.

Toshiyuki Yanagisawa, president and chief executive of Honda Cars India, said India would in future be the global production base for the model. He called the ALPHA an important step in Honda's move to electric cars.

Honda did not give the battery size, range, power output or price in its announcement.

A New Honda Logo

The announcement is also the first time Honda Cars India has used Honda's new H mark, which the carmaker now uses for its car business worldwide. The ALPHA will carry it before any other Honda model in India.

Honda first used an H mark on its cars in 1963 and has redesigned it several times since.

Where the ALPHA Fits

Honda builds the Amaze, City and Elevate in Tapukara, Rajasthan, and imports the ZR-V fully built from Japan. None of the four is fully electric.

The closest Honda gets today is the City e:HEV, a strong hybrid in which two electric motors work alongside a petrol engine. The recently updated Elevate is still petrol only.

Honda's exports from India are small at present. It shipped 473 cars abroad in October, against 4,124 a year earlier, even as its sales in India rose 19%.

Honda has not said when production of the ALPHA will start or when it will go on sale.
