Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles sold 73,894 cars and SUVs in India during October 2026, just 556 more than Mahindra's record month. That placed Tata second only to Maruti Suzuki among the carmakers that have published October figures.

Counting exports, Tata sold 75,426 vehicles, up 23% from 61,295 in October 2025. The figures come from Tata's sales release dated 1 November.

All figures include Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, the subsidiary that sells Tata's EVs.

The growth came on a high base. Tata had called October 2025 a record month at the time, and it was also the first full month of lower GST rates on cars.

A Narrow Lead Over Mahindra

Tata has outsold Mahindra in India in each month since July. October's gap was the smallest of the four, as Mahindra's SUV sales jumped to 73,338.

Both figures are wholesales to dealers. Mahindra's figure covers SUVs alone, because SUVs are the only passenger vehicles it sells here.

Four Months of Gains

Tata's total has risen every month since July, from 63,760 to 67,753 in August, 70,210 in September and 75,426 in October. In its quarterly release, Tata said September was the month it crossed the 70,000 mark.

The same release named the Tata Punch as India's best-selling SUV for July to September. Tata's October release gave no figures by model and no comment from its management.

EVs and Exports

Tata's 16,244 electric vehicles made up about 21.5% of its October total, by DynoBHP's calculation. That was not an EV record for Tata, which sold 16,549 in August.

Exports were 1,532, against 1,400 in September. Tata exported more in August, at 2,500.

CNG made up 28% of Tata's sales in July to September, according to its quarterly release. Tata also offers half of the CNG automatic models on sale in India.
